TPB's from Marel and Darkhorse?

Postby Bigmatt » Sun Feb 07, 2010 1:25 pm

I was wondering if anyone heard any news if Marvel or Darkhorse would be releasing their John Carter Series as TPBs? I was hoping Marvel might put together an Essentials Warlord of Mars series. The Essentials are TPB's of a certain character bound together and released in black and white. These stories are usually from the 60's 70's and are comprised of Marvel characters Spider-Man Hulk etc, however a few years ago Marvel released their licensed Godzilla run as an Essentials. So hopefully Warlord of Mars will follow.

Second I was hoping the Darkhorse would release its Tarzan/ John Carter Warlords of Mars as a TPB. Virtually all of their other Tarzan crossovers are available in TPB form including crossovers with Batman, Predator (At the Earth's core so it includes David Innes) and even a crossover with Carson Napier in TPB. I get how Batman and Predator might be thought of as more well know characters than John Carter, but (And I mean this with no disrespect to the character) how does Carson Napier get a TPB before John Carter?! Anyway if anyone hears if either of these are coming out or how we can start requesting them to be released please post.

Unfortunately, judging from the forward by Alan Davis in his Killraven TPB, Marvel no longer owns rights to JCOM. When approached to do the rebirth of Killraven, Alan asked instead to do the rebirth of the JCOM series, but was told that Marvel no longer held the rights. So it seems that the phenomenal writer/artist Alan Davis is a fan of the Barsoom books! There is a rendition of his take on the characters on his website:http://www.alandavis-comicart.com/

I believe Dark Horse still owns the license (as evidenced by their recent Jesse March John Carter collection) for all ERB properties. This should give them the ability to reprint the Marvel series if they so choose, since reprint rights generally accompany a license deal. Any requests should probably be directed to them.
